Frequently Asked Questions
The name is a playful nod to the word "draft." Obviously, a draft is a preliminary version of a piece of writing, but a "drafty" room is also proverbially cold and uncomfortable. Our goal is to embrace the messy, sometimes uncomfortable nature of first drafts and help writers learn to feel comfortable with the process.
Since we don't take outside investments, show ads, or sell your data, charging for the app is the only way we can cover our development costs. We don't even have access to your data, as everything is stored offline. This straightforward, paid-app model keeps us accountable directly to you, the writers using our app, instead of corporate advertisers or investors.
No. Drafty Story is designed to be completely offline-first. There are no logins, no cloud syncing, and no accounts required.
Everything you write is stored locally on your device. Your data never leaves your device unless you actively choose to export and share it.
Absolutely not. Because all of your data stays strictly on your own device, it is completely inaccessible to us or any third parties. Your work is entirely yours, and we promise it will never be used to train AI.
We use an offline, peer-to-peer feedback exchange. You can export your story as a standard EPUB file and send it to a friend or beta reader. They can import it into Drafty Story, leave structured reviews (like chapter ratings and text comments), and send the feedback file right back to you.
We know everyone's writing routine is different. You can set flexible schedules based on what works best for you: daily, weekdays only, weekends only, or custom days. The app uses a visual calendar with a "warm/cold flame" indicator to help you build consistency, track your streaks, and celebrate your milestones.
Yes, but we specifically set them high enough that you likely won't hit them. Because everything runs locally without dedicated servers, we put some technical guardrails in place to keep the app running smoothly.
